Lockdown

Before the whole COVID-19 situation life was seemingly different . I had probably never heard of the term social distancing . The more real the situation becomes , reality hits . For many of us its a complete lifestyle change. No more social outings , no more parks , cooped up within the four walls of our house. We are on endless video calls , thanks to technology. People we haven't been in touch with are getting in touch either out of boredom or real care . Lets take a step back and look at the positives ; Some of us are looking inward - a lot of time to meditate and introspect. Some of us are connecting more so ever with family and friends. Some of us are taken back to childhood of our summer holidays where it was too hot to step out . Some of us are doing things we never did before . By the end of this we would be experts in cooking and innovating recipies . Try not to waste and make use of the resources we have . Life has become simple and minimalistic again. Many of us may hav...

Depression and Anxiety - what about it ?

I have been meaning to touch upon this topic for a while now . Is there a moment of your day that you end up feeling anxious or depressed over things ? In the past few weeks I have gone through a lot of content around this topic and thought I should share some insights . This is not a step by step formula or we are not even getting into solutioning a problem. I am sure there are many experts in this group and I am not qualified to talk about this topic. But I believe it is important for us to understand and debunk certain pre- conceived notions . In my own experience I have come across  people around us that  take depression very lightly and do not really understand that the person dealing with depression or anxiety needs help. Friends and family tend to brush it off by saying things - oh its a phase or its in your head or you are way to negative. or may be get a dog/ go for a drink / take a holiday . What people at large,  fail to understand is that each of us have had a...

What are we going to do about it ?

I cannot fathom the monstrosity of this act . I have been living in this city for 5 years and it had never occured to me that something as brutal and gory could have happened , until a few days ago . I have taken a cab multiple times to the airport in the middle of the night at odd hours . Sometimes because late night flights are cheaper. One such day my cab did break down and now in hindsight I think I am just lucky. When I think about it - was it the lonely stretch near Shamshabad or could it have been film nagar or even banjara hills . The place , the circumstances, the time probably didn't play a role at all. Timid, bold , shy , adventurous - whatever you are , doesn't even count. 4 men ! It took just 4 sick minded men to commit such a henious act. It makes me think what kind of mindset would need to have to do something as horribly animalistic as this ? Ultimately it boils down to a woman and her body ? But why would be so sexually frustrated that you would inconsiquential...

Women without men ..

It was International Men's day a few days ago. I didn't see a lot of hype like we do for women's day. We didn't get a cake for our male colleagues at work. I barely sent a text to two or three odd men, which included two from my immediate family. This has been on my mind for a while, and probably it's time I wrote about it. How much do we appreciate our men? How often do we take them for granted?  How sensitive are we to their emotions, and how much do we know about their emotions in a normal setting? Isn't it most often about us? I am just flipping a coin here. Our period - PMS - pre and post, mood swings, feeling low days etc. Sometimes I wonder, as a friend /partner /colleague/lover boy/husband - whatever role they play in our lives, do we appreciate them enough?  Do we take time to pick up on their mental exhaustion or them working tirelessly to meet ends? Them trying to make holidays happen? Chip in for school fees, run errands etc.?  We are moving away fro...

That type of girl

That type of girl. A few days ago, I came across this post about a woman sexting and a reference to " that type of girl". Again I wouldn't hold anything against the person who made this judgement. It definitely comes from a place far deeper.  And so I was compelled to write about "that type of girl". Who is this "that type of girl?".Is she promiscuous because she is sexually liberated, or is she a sassy woman with a glass of wine and a smoke? Perhaps a reasonably independent woman who has the ability and the will to choose a way of life. Or is she someone in the confines of her home, sleeping beside her partner, secretly fantasising about a man or a woman she has a connection with. Whoever this type of girl is, I would like to know how we get to this stereotyping. A moral compass is good, but only when you are looking at a mirror. How fair is it to judge someone whose story you haven't lived or known? How many of us have fantasies that we cannot...
