That which holds us ....

I am going to stick to the connect with the Earth element that I wrote about last week. The pandemic has given us a lot of time to observe and re-think some things, right from fitness to looking inward and most definitely outward. It has also made us conscious of the environment. We now realize that maybe we didn’t need to consume so much in the materialistic sense. Our wardrobes are full of clothes, and our shoes think we are dead or something (At least mine think I am :)… I miss them too ). After having consumed so much - we wonder if we can differentiate between a need and a want. This may be an excellent time to ponder over some of these parts of our daily lives. We have a place of influence in our homes. We may be primary or secondary consumers of many products, which may help us practice waste management or avoid plastic. You may notice that these products are slightly expensive. But if we can invest in our shoes and our clothes and our lipsticks and our nail paints. You g...

The first element - the earth .

Taoism and Yogic philosophy both have the 5 elements as the fo undation of the practices. In both these practices - the elements vary slightly, but there are some commonalities.   There are interesting comparisons one can draw and so I'd like to touch upon the "Earth" as the first element . When you think of the earth - what comes to your mind? A vast expanse that holds so many living and non - living beings without any judgement. The earth doesn’t say that you don’t have a place on this planet. It does not judge between good or bad . In it's capacity it bears the weight of all beings . So the first aspect we learn from the earth is that of a non judgmental perspective. Before we step out and look at the external world, take a pause and look at how we make judgements about ourselves. ? Do we hold ourselves with the love that we deserve? We have a constant narrative about ourselves ; I am lazy I am fat I am too thin I am dumb Mostly a ...

Why do pencils have erasers?

So we have switched to online schooling and we will be switching back to regular school very soon. Now, what I am going to write about may not go well with a lot of parents , but this is something that I wanted to put out there . I am beginning to imagine that a lot of parents have been closer to their child's education through the online schooling situation. I do not know if parents have had a chance to have some basic conversations on what this system will be like. Or probably have an understanding of what the protocol should be. In general, sometimes in our system of education(which is likely to go get a positive spin soon ) and parenting there may certain patterns , given a certain kind of culture that makes us want our children to excel or be perfectionists. We cannot see them failing. Somehow the fact that a child is average does not sit well with all parents. I am saying this from years of interacting with children and being an educator. We tend to push our...

What is being mindful?

Our mind is combination of muscles just like our body . Every time you exercise or do some weights or a push up, you know that your body is getting   stronger by the day . If you have been training for a while you also know that your agility and reflexes are faster. In case of a physical attack you could use these . But that is everything to do with how we work for our body. Sometimes obsessed by weight loss and sometimes just as fitness freaks. I would call myself a workout freak too.   And I love the idea of a fantastic workout.   Recently my own personal journey has also led me to pay attention to mindfulness . What is mindfulness? I am going to try and elaborate on this topic as best as I can .   Mindfulness is not just meditation . Mindfulness is a mind workout . Mindfulness is being in the present .Every time you are focus on a mindful activity, you are basically making sure that the mind gets it's push up reps. Just like you would use your physical...
